Brandon Flowers has been listening to the War on Drugs, and I'm all for it.
Sufjan is feeling chilly and judgmental, and so am I. I hear you dude, I don't want to play anybody's fucking video game either.
Who else is making records that boogie this hard? This is James Brown-level shit.
Blitzen Trapper gets a free pass for "Furr", basically a campfire song in our family now. But damn this new album is pretty great.
At one point dude belts out: "Life's a bummer, when you're a hummer!" Oof. (But then he wins me over with an extravagantly long coda tacked on to the end for no apparent reason.)
Listen I know this is fucking loud but honestly for Metz it's a stab at the Top 40. Is that chorus actualy...singalong-able? It even has a vocal harmony for frick's sake!
I didn't expect to hear a new Lips song that I gave a shit about ever again, so this new album is really a pleasant surprise.
What a relatable first line. I've long suspected Hot Chip is just dance-floor Ray Davies, and here we go.
A circular, warm, confident, low-key groove, with little synth flute trills fluttering about like lost butterflies. This is also a very good album.
Not a new song, but a new acoustic version of the lead song from their 2017 album "The Tourist". Sounds more like Flamenco music this way, which, huzzah.
How many hooks can you stuff into a short little record? Let's find out!
All the best Downie/Hip stuff sounds like the Rheostatics.
Wait for the tasty treat at about the 2:45 mark. I wanna loop it and use it as workout music.
To be honest I could probably live off a steady diet of "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" covers.
